Viewpoint. CROC
RANEPA. January 2022
A light wave splashes in the coastal rocks. A warm breeze makes the fine sand rise slightly above the ground. Our path leads to a glass viewpoint going under the water. As we descend down, we watch small fish flickering in the seaweed. To reach the other side of the site, you have to walk through a long glass tunnel. The water seems to embrace us, and we look around with slight excitement. Suddenly, something appears from the depths of the river. It slowly moves towards us, swims above us and disappears behind the water mass. After a couple of seconds we realize that we have just spotted a crocodile.

Working process
In order to create a viewpoint for crocodile observation, we first had to find a suitable shape. The first idea was a square structure standing in the middle of a reservoir. As the project progressed, the square structure turned into a rectangular shape. The final shape is more simple and elegant. It is two two-story cylindrical structures connected by an underwater tunnel.
Schemes and drawings
The main part of the structure is made of concrete. Gesell mirror is used on the underwater floor for safety reasons. The second floor is tempered glass.
